Introduction: Between Giving to Others and Giving to Yourself

In recent days, between birthday events and festive moments, I have found myself thinking a lot about gifts. But not just any gifts, but about

As a young woman, I recently discovered a whole world of purchases that seem basic to girls my age, but were a novelty to me. I often struggled to spend a certain amount of money on a product I wanted or needed—especially when the emphasis was on quality and a fair price. I found myself saying, “This is

The Importance of Self-Gift: Beyond a Basic Need

The ability to give myself a gift has proven to be just as important as my ability to give to others. While we strive to understand our relationships with those around us and give them meaningful gifts, we tend to forget the most important connection – the one between ourselves. Sometimes, this gift is not an existential necessity but an addition, an ornament, or something that is perceived as “superfluous” in external eyes.

But herein lies the beauty: the process of self-learning that occurs when I want to find something for myself is like a deep conversation with the human soul. Justification, investment in myself, and the ability to transcend basic daily consumption often require much more than words. They require a deep recognition of our need, a true desire to give to ourselves. This is something that seems simple to give to others, but becomes challenging when it concerns ourselves. And yet, when we are kind to ourselves, we are also kind to the environment. Even if in the end the gift seems like a “waste,” as long as it is consumed with pleasure and self-love, it is blessed.

The connection between self-giving and giving to others: the power of personal connection

I remember never being able to buy my mother a gift that really made her happy, because she used to leave them in a box. That feeling of a gift remaining unopened doesn’t make anyone happy. It was only when I was able to find something that filled a real need of hers, something that reflected my love and appreciation for her, that she actually used it. For those of you who are curious, it was shoes. I was so happy to see her using them, that I was able to find something that she loved and that improved her quality of life.

Choosing a gift, whether for others or for yourself, requires
